Christmas Has Arrived at Linguaschools!

We love the festive atmosphere, the lights, and the joy that this time of year brings. That’s why we’ve transformed the entrance of our school to ensure that the Christmas spirit wraps around everyone who visits. A huge Christmas tree stands proudly in the lobby, decorated with colorful baubles, bright lights, garlands, and, of course, a large star on top.

Our beloved Tió de Nadal, a typical Catalan Christmas tradition, is also part of the celebration. Every week, we feed him so that, on the big day, when we sing his special song, he can surprise us with gifts and treats.

Throughout this month, we’ll be doing Christmas-related activities, and of course, in our lessons, we’ll be working on Christmas vocabulary, grammar, and expressions so that our students can learn more about our culture.

It’s time to be enveloped by the warmth of this season and enjoy all the activities and surprises that await us. How exciting!

1040 hours at Linguaschools!

Last week, we said goodbye to a very special student: Natalie! During her time with us, she dedicated no less than 1040 hours to learning Spanish.

Natalie arrived last year from the United States to Linguaschools with the goal of completing all the hours of the Intensive 20 course!

Although she was a complete beginner in the language at first, her motivation to learn and discover never waned. Month by month, she progressed through the levels, learning more and more, until she reached level C1! Today, she is a true expert in Spanish.

The farewell was very emotional, as during her stay, Natalie made many great friends at the school. Even former students who are still in Barcelona came to say goodbye. For the Linguaschools team, it was also a special moment, as we shared many hours with her both in class and during activities.
We are very proud of her progress and happy to see how much her Spanish has improved. We wish her the best, and as always, Natalie knows she can visit us whenever she wants. It will be a pleasure to see her again!

Fridays are always emotional days, but we are very happy to see the satisfaction of our students and the progress they have made. How beautiful is the journey of learning Spanish!

Students from all over the world come to Linguaschools to learn and practise Spanish for more or less periods of time. During the Spanish classes, the Sangría, the activities and the coffee breaks, we meet each other and form strong bonds.

After a great adventure in Barcelona, some students have to say goodbye to the school. On Friday, when classes end, we have a special moment to say goodbye and give them a certificate that shows all the hours they have spent studying at the school!

Sometimes it is hard to say goodbye to students who have been here for a long time. And it is also difficult to say goodbye to people we have got to know better! But they all know very well that this is not a goodbye and that the doors of Linguaschools Barcelona will always be open to welcome them back!

It is not a sad moment. It is a great time of celebration and admiration for all they have achieved!

Enhorabuena estudiantes! Congratulations students!

It is important for us to have a team where people trust each other and feel comfortable sharing their ideas. We try to develop individual strengths as well as a sense of belonging within the group.

As you may have guessed, Linguaschools isn’t just about teachers. There’s a whole team of people working to ensure that our students have the best possible experience at our centres, from the moment they book to the last day of class.

That’s why it’s really important for us to be a team and have some moments to get to know each other and bond, not only because of our passion for the world of education. In this case, competing in an escape room in different groups and having drinks together afterwards on a casual Friday was enough to make a difference.

We are now fully recharged after the activity. We are all looking forward to seeing each and every one of you at Linguaschools!

It’s not that Christmas is coming, it’s that it’s already here!

The lights are already illuminating the streets of Barcelona and the Christmas spirit, advertisements and businesses are preparing for a Christmas that this year will be marked by geopolitical, energy and climate problems. However, our Christmas spirit returns to make us forget them for a couple of days and gather together with such good vibes.

We’ve been slowly growing year by year, so this celebration helps us to foster relationships and communication between us, giving us a break to spend time together, not just talking about work or greeting each other in the corridor between classes.

In the end, the important thing about Christmas is to appreciate the love and respect we have for the people around us every day!

So whoever is reading this, whether you are a past, present or future student, a colleague or a curious visitor, we wish you a Christmas and New Year full of happiness and hope!

Last week we took advantage of a bank holiday to take a trip to the Dalí Theater Museum.

This artist was born in Figueres on May 11, 1904, and as you should already know, he is one of the most international Spanish painters in history. The creator of a very personal and extravagant style, Dalí would end up becoming a master of the surrealist style and an icon of contemporary painting.

Peculiar and quirky, Salvador Dalí once said “Surrealism is me.” A categorical statement but one that makes sense since the Catalan painter is one of the greatest exponents of this artistic trend.

His characteristic style is determined by an indisputable technical perfection, present in every detail, through which he expresses his peculiar and disturbing universe. An unconscious world that he captured like no other, making him a painter of dreams and one of the most representative artists of the 20th century.

Although his prolific work focuses primarily on painting, he also explored sculpture, film, stage design, jewellery and costume design, writing and even created his own creative technique, the Paranoid-Critical Method based on consciously extracting elements from the world. The interior of the paranoid, which the artist captured in double images through which he represented objects that became other objects, thus associating things that were not rationally linked.

Therefore, entering the Dalí Theater Museum (created by himself) means entering a world of his own, being able to enjoy these creations, where the artist concentrated all his artistic and cultural wealth and all his wisdom. All the pieces of work there become windows to the mind. They contain many secrets which are not expressed in words, but which are there and which we can see and interpret if we look closely. At the same time, symbols can mean certain things to large groups of people. So, although they are windows into the artist’s mind, symbols are also a mirror of our own universe of meaning as viewers. Don’t you think it’s incredible?

As you may already know, paella is one of the most remarkable dishes of Spanish gastronomy. It’s also famous all over the world and has become a tourist magnet for all those who love a good plate of rice.

But what’s also important, here in our country, paella has always been a dish that brings people together to celebrate an event. For us it’s essentially a festive dish. Due to its laborious preparation and the fact that its ingredients were a luxury for the majority of the population for a long time when a celebration had to be held, paella was the chosen dish. Families or friends would gather together and talk for hours while the chef was cooking, to end up tasting a delicious portion with a glass of wine.

We decided to pay tribute to that tradition and also give an opportunity to those students who hadn’t tried paella to do so. It was our first big event in the garden of our new building and we couldn’t have been more happy to make it’s debut this way!

Two great chefs came to cook paella for 65 people! Music, talking, drinking, and fraternity was all around!

Goodbyes are not sad in Madrid

A couple of weeks ago, we had a special event at our school in Madrid. We had to say goodbye to one of the most beloved teachers: Mayka.

To demonstrate how important she is to all of us, students and staff, we gave her special presents to remember us joyfully. Chocolates and flowers were specially selected to make her feel our gratitude and how much we will miss her around here!

We are not sad, she’s a great teacher, but she’s also a great human being and we wish her all the best, knowing we’ll meet again soon.

We shared a really fun and emotional time together and we’re already looking forward to the next time!

Thanks, Mayka! See you really soon. ????

Eat spring onions, get ash on your fingers and wear a bib so you don’t get dirty. It doesn’t sound like the most appetising plan in the world, but once you’ve tasted your first calçot, you’ll understand why Catalans fall in love with this product.

Its sweetness, its watery softness, its smoky flavour and the finishing touch of almond, roasted tomato and pepper sauce justify the stains, while the ritual of picking it up with your hands, putting it in your mouth and swallowing it with your eyes open guarantees fun.

Calçotadas – gatherings of friends or family to eat calçots and other grilled foods – are a winter classic in Catalonia, and we couldn’t resist trying them.
We went to the famous local restaurant La Caseta del Migdia, up in Montjuïc, to enjoy a day of sun, calçots, nature and live music. What a plan!
