Last Saturday we took the train to Girona, the largest city in northern Catalonia.

It’s such a romantic and charming place. Its old town preserves Romanesque and Gothic buildings, the ancient walls and one of its greatest attractions, the Jewish quarter.

Girona was home to the second largest Jewish community in Catalonia after Barcelona, so walking through its streets is like stepping back a thousand years in time.

Lauren had prepared a guided tour for us that took us to the river Onyar and other places, and ended at the foot of the beautiful cathedral. We have to admit that the students were keen to see it in person because of all the Game of Thrones scenes set there.

It was a day full of history and curiosity and we don’t rule out going back again!

Sunday morning 09:15, super sunny and a big happy group of students. Thats all you need for a great day trip to Girona. We met at the train-station and took the fast train up north. After a 40 minute ride we arrived in this beautiful painteresque medieval city. We admired the arquitectura of Rafael Masó, visited the second hand market by the Onyar river, took pictures on the Eiffel bridge, kissed the lion, climbed the steps of the (Game of Thrones!!) cathedral and walked over the city wall. Then it was time for tapas and pizza 🙂
